Clergy Respect at All Time Low

American clergy receive less respect both from church members and the general public than at any time since such respect was polled. Three reasons are listed for why: first, the ongoing priest pedophilia scandal in the Roman Catholic Church; second, the political activities of the religious right; and third, television ministries and the ethics of their fund raising.

Lutherans and other mainline Protestants are not involved in most of these undesirable activities. Yet, the effects are still felt.
