Conference Co-sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union

The Courts and Ports program I attended last week was sponsored by several denominations and the American Civil Liberties Union. This was the first time I can remember the ACLU sponsoring an event aimed at Christian clergy.

When I attended seminary, the ACLU was often perceived to be a secular organization which was not supportive of the church. I do not remember seminarians being encouraged to support the ACLU.

Times are changing and new groups are supporting the church and some old allies are falling away. The ACLU speaker at this event encouraged us to have courage in our public proclamation of the gospel.

Are any readers of this blog members of the ACLU?
