Family in the Valley

When I am out of the valley, I am often asked how life is different "way down there." One difference I have noticed is how many schools, businesses and organizations say they treat people like family and are one large family themselves. I suspect the emphasis on family comes from the Hispanic culture of this area. Individualism does not seem to be as strong.
