Follow Up to Letter to Clergymen

When I called to RSVP the event I mentioned a few days ago, the woman who took my call did not know women could be clergy. I told her about the female clergy in my life and suggested the city call us clergy and not clergymen. To be charitable to her, most churches in the valley do not have female clergy, especially Roman Catholics and many Pentecostal and conservative evangelical congregations. It is likely she has not met a female cleric.

Sometimes I am asked by people away from the border what they can do to help immigrants and refugees. I told my FB friends to speak up for all who are forgotten or oppressed, regardless of whoever or wherever they may be. People of faith need to make it clear to public officials and others that all people are worthy of respect and dignity.
