Jesus Was a Refugee

At last week's synod assembly, I wore a sticker, provided by Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, with this phrase as a way for people to know my identity in addition to serving First Lutheran. Others were encouraged to wear similar stickers. No one said anything to me about the sticker.


However, a Latino colleague of mine wore the same sticker and was criticized by an Anglo. My colleague removed his sticker.


I am aware of how much I get away with because I am a privileged white male. I wonder how many other white males are aware of how privileged in our culture they really are.
