Latest Email from Bishop Eaton Distributed

I sent out the latest email on immigration from our presiding bishop, not just because it was about a hot issue in the church, but because of all the other religious leaders who signed on as well. Letters from multiple religious leaders are becoming much more common.

I am aware of how much time and energy religious leaders in the United States are having to devote these days to the various leadership crises in Washington. I have been following such pronouncements for decades and can not remember a time when so many have been coming out about so many issues. Other responsibilities are having to be neglected.

When people ask me why so many congregations are declining these days, I try to mention the amount of time religious leaders are being forced to spend on public issues involving truth, justice, and morality. Our bishops are being called upon not only to save people and souls, but also to save our planet and nation.
