Meeting with Edinburg School Officials

Leaders of the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District have had two meetings with local clergy to build stronger relationships with the local religious community. I have attended both and a third meeting is planned for February.

The district is larger than Rhode Island with 945 square miles. Enrollment is 34,500 and employees exceed 5,000 on 43 campuses. The district is the largest in Hidalgo County and the largest employer in the county.

Poverty is a real challenge. Around 500 students live in automobiles and 35 are couch sleepers who move around from one family to another. Each school has a parental assistant to help with family issues.

The next meeting will deal with standardized tests. Is there a question you would like for me to ask?
