National Cathedral Statement

Last week I forwarded on FB a rare statement by the clergy of the National Cathedral in Washington concerning comments being made on a regular basis by the president. Scott Atnip of Texas Impact forwarded the statement and said he can not remember another time the clergy at the cathedral have made such a statement. American presidents traditionally have their funerals at the cathedral.

I encouraged prayer for our bishops and other church leaders as they try to determine where silence on political rhetoric in the United States becomes denial of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Church officials are facing more pressure to speak out in our current political climate. Racism and sexism are moral and theological issues, not partisan political issues.
