Wearing a Clergy Collar

At the Courts and Ports event I attended last week, clergy were encouraged to wear garb appropriate to their tradition. I wore a black shirt and clergy collar. Clergy are being encouraged to wear clergy garb these days in case they are seen at a news conference.

At the event, a woman cleric who had never worn a collar asked me to help her put one on. I was not accustomed to having a woman ask me to help her finish getting dressed.

I know of some clergy in our synod who do not own a clergy collar. They feel clerics create a psychological barrier between them and others.
